WMX is one world championship class
The FIM Women’s Motocross World Championship runs as a single MX2 class. That class label defines the motorcycle category used for the series; it does not impose the MX2 men’s maximum rider age. WMX has its own age window and its own event format inside the wider Motocross World Championship regulations.
Eligibility opens at 15 and extends to 50
A WMX rider must be at least 15 years old when the event’s first technical verification begins. The maximum age is 50, measured through the end of the calendar year in which that age is reached. The rule therefore creates a broad senior world-championship field rather than a short youth-only ladder.
Practice can hold more riders than the races
The standard WMX schedule allows up to 50 riders in a 20-minute free-practice session and the same maximum in 25 minutes of timed practice. Timed practice establishes the competitive order before the racing programme. A later ten-minute sighting-lap session is limited to 42 riders.
The race gate is capped at 40
Each WMX round uses two races, each scheduled for 20 minutes plus two laps. A maximum of 40 riders starts each race. That makes the race duration shorter than the 30-minute-plus-two-lap MXGP and MX2 format while retaining a two-moto structure for the event result.
One rulebook, WMX-specific clauses
Many general procedures—technical verification, official signals, start practice, sighting laps and results—apply across MXGP, MX2 and WMX. Where the championship needs a different rule, the document marks it with a WMX-specific clause. The format is therefore integrated with the Grand Prix system without being identical to the men’s classes.
Facts are frozen to the verification date shown above. Any later correction will be added visibly.
