The Japanese IA2 champion is stepping onto the world stage
Honda Racing Corporation has confirmed that Taiga Yanase will compete in the MX2 class of the 2027 FIM Motocross World Championship. The 21-year-old makes the move after winning the 2026 All Japan Motocross Championship IA2 title.
Honda presents the move as a development-pathway first
Yanase becomes the first rider promoted to the world championship through HRC's “From Asia to the World” initiative. Honda says the programme is intended to establish the Japanese championship as a route into international competition for young riders from Japan and across Asia.
His 2026 position was already inside HRC
HRC signed Yanase as an IA2 rider for the 2026 season after his earlier participation with a Honda Motorcycle Japan-supported team. The IA2 championship therefore becomes the confirmed sporting result behind his next step rather than an untested nomination alone.
The destination class is clear; the team is not
Honda's announcement names the 2027 MX2 World Championship but does not identify Yanase's team, motorcycle specification, race number or contract length. This briefing does not place him in the separate Honda HRC factory pairing already announced for Maxime Grau and Julius Mikula.
What can be added only after another official release
A team identity, technical package and full race programme require a further primary announcement from Honda, the eventual team, Yanase or the championship. Until then, the verified news is the progression from 2026 Japanese IA2 champion to a confirmed 2027 MX2 World Championship entrant.
Facts are frozen to the verification date shown above. Any later correction will be added visibly.
