Fernández takes the second Yamaha factory seat

Yamaha Motor Europe has signed Rubén Fernández to its Factory Racing MXGP team for the 2027 FIM Motocross World Championship. The 27-year-old Spaniard will race a factory YZ450FM alongside five-time world champion Tim Gajser.

The signing completes a major team reset

Fernández arrives as Yamaha moves the factory MXGP operation into a centralised in-house structure at its racing headquarters in Gerno di Lesmo, Italy. That makes the announcement more than a rider transfer: it connects a new team base, operating model and two confirmed riders.

A previous Yamaha rider returns in the premier class

Fernández has raced Yamaha machinery earlier in his career and now returns in MXGP. His official record includes a first Grand Prix victory in 2023, fifth in the 2023 world championship and fourth in 2025. Those results provide context; they do not guarantee a 2027 title challenge.

The motorcycle remains a new experience

Fernández says he has not yet ridden the current Yamaha and is looking forward to beginning the test programme. Euro MX Community therefore treats adaptation to the YZ450FM as unfinished work and does not claim performance gains before official testing or racing.

What is confirmed—and what remains open

The rider, class, factory motorcycle, teammate and Italian team base are official. Yamaha has not included a race-by-race test schedule, final livery or individual 2027 championship target in this announcement. Those details remain open until Yamaha or the rider confirms them.
