Portugal keeps one of its signature circuits
Águeda is confirmed for the 2027 MXGP of Portugal on 22 and 23 May. The venue first hosted a Grand Prix in 1985 and the 2027 edition will be its 28th world championship event. Its orange hardpack, natural amphitheatre and location in the Aveiro district make it one of the calendar's most recognisable European stops.
Mérida becomes the home of Extremadura
Mérida will host the MXGP of Extremadura on 17 and 18 April. The programme includes MXGP, MX2, EMX250 and EMX125. The city is the capital of Extremadura and sits between major Spanish and Portuguese travel corridors. It replaces uncertainty around the second Spanish round with a named venue and a clear regional identity.
A longer project, not a one-year experiment
The Mérida event and the MXGP of Andalucía are covered by three-year agreements from 2027 through 2029 and share the same organising partner. For riders and teams that provides continuity; for travelling fans it creates two distinct Spanish weekends. Dates remain subject to formal championship updates, so Euro MX Community keeps the calendar and this article connected and will mark any later change visibly.
Two very different European weekends
Águeda offers an established Grand Prix landscape with decades of reference data. Mérida begins with a blank sporting page and a city better known for its Roman heritage. That contrast gives the 2027 route variety: one weekend returns to a proven circuit, while the other builds a new event identity in Extremadura.
Planning information for riders and fans
The date shown for Mérida is 17–18 April, with the championship race date commonly listed as Sunday 18 April. Águeda runs 22–23 May. Travel, tickets and support-class timetables should only be treated as final when the organiser publishes them. Calendar confirmation is not the same as a complete visitor schedule.
Facts are frozen to the verification date shown above. Any later correction will be added visibly.
