A centenary meeting twice tested by weather
Norwich Viking MCC finally staged its rescheduled centenary race meeting at Lyng on Sunday 25 October. The original late-July date had been cancelled because a regional heatwave created dust and safety concerns. The replacement presented the opposite problem: stormy conditions before and during the meeting made track preparation difficult.
Thirteen races completed
The club crew kept the circuit usable and delivered a 13-race programme to close the 2026 season. That matters beyond the results. A centenary meeting depends on volunteer officials, marshals, medics and track workers, and the ACU report credits that group with getting the day completed despite the weather.
Utting sweeps the A Group
Bayliss Utting won all three A Group races to claim the overall. Chester Hyde finished second through consistent results, with Declan Whittle third on his return to competition. Utting’s perfect card made him the day’s clearest benchmark across the regular group races.
Parker takes the memorial trophy
The Dennis Slaughter Memorial Trophy race was open to Norwich Viking club riders and used a staggered start, releasing the expert riders last. Luke Parker worked through the field to win the trophy, ahead of Declan Whittle and Joe Hall. It gave the club’s centenary meeting a result tied directly to its own history rather than just another end-of-season scorecard.
