A time check is not a finish line to attack

EnduroGP riders receive target times for the sections between time checks. The aim is to reach each control on the assigned minute, not simply as quickly as possible. Under the 2026 FIM regulations, every section between controls is treated as a test of time management in its own right.

Early and late carry the same basic penalty

A rider who does not respect the permitted time between two checks receives one minute of penalty for every begun minute of early or late arrival. Arriving one minute and a few seconds outside the target therefore starts a second penalty minute. Waiting before the control can be as important as finding speed on the route.

The clock does not simply reset to the schedule

The time registered at the control becomes the rider’s starting time for the next section. That means a timing mistake can change the working reference for what follows. Riders and teams must calculate the next target from the actual registered time rather than assume the original schedule still applies.

Too late—or no check—ends the day

Missing a time check means the rider is classified as retired. A rider who arrives more than fifteen minutes after the original target time is also automatically retired; the limit is thirty minutes for the Women’s and Enduro Open categories. Race Direction can consider specific exceptional circumstances under the regulation.

Two important exceptions

A rider may pass the final time check at the entrance to Parc Fermé early without penalty. The rules also allow a special time allowance when a rider proves an abnormal delay beyond their control, including stopping to render first aid after a serious accident. Being held up by another rider does not qualify on its own.
