The colour is part of the circuit’s identity

Águeda is known in the MXGP paddock for orange hardpack rather than sand or dark loam. Infront Moto Racing also describes a natural amphitheatre around the track, linking the Portuguese round’s visual identity to both its soil and the way spectators look into the circuit.

Its World Championship history began in 1985

The circuit hosted its first Grand Prix in 1985, when Dave Strijbos won the 125cc class. The 2027 visit will be Águeda’s 28th World Championship event, confirming that the venue’s reputation is built on repeated use rather than one celebrated weekend.

The next return has a fixed date

The MXGP of Portugal is scheduled for 22–23 May 2027. Águeda lies in the Aveiro District, roughly 75 kilometres south of Porto. This briefing records the official date and venue without turning it into ticket, weather or travel advice.

Three multi-champions lead the venue record

Jeffrey Herlings holds the official Águeda record with six wins. Antonio Cairoli follows with five and Stefan Everts has four. The count reflects the organiser’s published venue history; it is not a prediction about who will lead when the championship returns.

Why the track remains culturally important

Águeda combines a recognisable surface, a long Grand Prix record and strong Portuguese attendance in one venue. That continuity gives fans and riders a reference point across different eras of machinery and classes, while each return still depends on the current calendar rather than permanent status.
